HOW TO COOK EGG TOFU FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR

Lunar New Year, also called Spring Festival, is the most important holiday in China. The Spring Festival marks a new year on the lunar calendar and represents the desire for a new life. Chinese New Year's Eve is the time for family reunion when delicious dishes are cooked for the whole family. Not only do the dishes themselves matter, but also people cherish the preparation with families, and ways of serving and eating are very special during this time.

As we say goodbye to the year of the Ox and greet the upcoming year of the Tiger, we would like to share an easy recipe you can cook for the upcoming Lunar New Year using Superior Natural’s Egg Flavored Silken Tofu and some simple ingredients you can get from the nearby grocery store- Pan-Fried Egg Tofu with Ground Pork. Instead of using regular water-packed tofu, you can try egg flavored tofu which has a silky texture and mild flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of Superior Natural’s Egg Flavored Silken Tofu

  • 5oz Ground Pork

  • 2 tablespoon Soy Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil

  • 2 tablespoon Cooking Wine

  • 1/2 tablespoon Sugar

  • 1/8 tablespoon White Pepper

  • 1 tablespoon of Cornstarch (for marinating meat), 1 bowl of Cornstarch (for coating the egg tofu)

  • Minced ginger and green onion as necessary

  • Chopped 5 pieces of Garlic

  • Diced 1/8 Red Sweet Pepper

  • Vegetable oil as necessary

Sauce

  • 1 teaspoon of Cornstarch

  • 1 cup of Water

  • 2 teaspoon Oyster Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon dark Soy Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon Soy Sauce

Instructions:

  1. Put the ground pork in a bowl and add the soy sauce, cooking wine, sugar, white pepper, sesame oil and one teaspoon of cornstarch. Mix to combine, then leave at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

  2. Next step is to make the sauce. In a small bowl, add 2 tablespoon oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce, 1 tablespoon Soy Sauce, 1 teaspoon of cornstarch and 1 cup of water and stir well, set aside.

  3. Cut the egg tofu in half while it's still in the tube, then carefully squeeze it from the package. Cut the egg tofu each 2/3 inches wide and lay them on a plate. Blot the surface of the tofu with paper towels. Put the cornstarch in a shallow plate, coat the egg tofu we just cut with cornstarch and shake off the excess powder.

  4. Heat a skillet over a medium heat. Place coated egg tofu pieces in the hot skillet. aPan fry the pieces on both sides until the tofu turns golden, carefully turning them over (it can break easily).

  5. Heat another wok over a high heat and when it's hot, add 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil and the chopped garlic, stir-fry the garlic for 30 seconds. Add the marinated ground pork and stir-fry until the pink color fades. Then, add back the fried tofu and the sauce. Simmer until the pork is cooked and the liquid turns to a thick texture. Before you turn off the heat, add the minced green onion and red sweet pepper garnish.
